Graduation Information

Graduation is a very special achievement and Student Affairs is the place to find out everything you need to know about the graduation process. In order to make this a memorable occasion, please start making preparations now. The Graduation Ceremony will be held at the LaGuardia Community College Performing Arts Center on Sunday, 22 June 2008 at 9:30am. The Performing Arts Center is located at 30-10 Thomson Ave., Long Island City, NY, 11101.

Graduates should arrive no later than 8:30. Guests will be allowed in at 9:00am and must have a ticket.


Graduation Fee:

There is a $40.00 graduation fee for all students and should be paid to Student Finance Office prior to 1 May 2008.

This fee includes all aspects of the graduation ceremony, diploma covers, processing of diplomas, etc. It does NOT include the cost of the cap and gown.


Application:

Please apply for Graduation early. The deadline for online applications is ASAP.

*** On-Line, DVUC, and Keller Graduates
There may be separate applications and instructions for On-Line, DVUC and Keller Graduates please see your On-Line Advisor or Center Dean for more information.


Tickets:

Each student will be able to receive 4 tickets for graduation that they will pick up from Career Services (room 145) if they are an undergraduate or their Center/Campus Dean if they are a Keller graduate.

There will NOT be extra tickets provided. Please get them from your classmates


Grad Fest:

Grad Fest will be held on 7 May 2008 from 11am to 6pm.
Consider this a pre-graduation celebration with food, music, prizes.
This is campuses way to celebrate with you and make sure you have everything ready to go for graduation.
A number of vendors will be here to support this wonderful success.


Cap & Gown, Rings, etc:

Jostens is the provider for all your graduation needs. In addition to caps and gowns they have a number of other items for graduation including class rings, diploma frames, etc.

There are three ways to order you caps and gowns:
1) Attend Grad Fest on 7 May 2008 from 11am to 6pm.
2) Order on line: www.jostens.com/devrystudent. Go to the DeVry Institute of Technology Link.

Cap & Gown Packages = $33.80 (taxes NOT included)
Shipping & Handling is an additional $11.95.
Cap & Gown Packages will be shipped directly to your home or office.


When ordering you will need to have your height and weight.

*** Special Note for Keller Students
Keller students should NOT order their Masters degree hood. Just order the basic cap and gown package. Hoods will be provided.


Photos:

Chappell GraduationImages will be taking photos of graduates before, during and after graduation.

Before: Come visit Chappell at Grad Fest, when there is less hustle and bustle. Dress your best for this day and get a picture perfect portrait.

During: There will be class group photos of every one in your program before the ceremony. There will be two pictures taken during the ceremony: 1) one as you cross the stage and receive your diploma; and 2) after you walk off stage.

After: Chappell will join us at the reception following graduation to take portraits of you and your family and friends.


Career Services Exit Interview:

In order to provide effective and efficient support in your job search stop by Career Services in room 145 and meet with your Advisor. When you meet with them bring a current copy of your Resume.

Financial Services Exit Interviews:

In order to make sure graduates have met all financial obligations graduating students need to go to Student Finance in room 315 to schedule your exit workshop. It is important that you clear your balance with Student Accounts, including the $40.00 graduation fee. (Note: This is a processing fee, and does not include caps, gowns, photos, rings, etc.) If you have any questions please contact Student Finance).

Exit Interviews will be during the following dates and times in Room 315:
May 23, 2008 – Friday: Walk-in
May 27, 2008 – Tuesday: 1 to 7pm
May 29, 2008 – Thursday: 11am to 5pm
May 31, 2008 – Saturday: 10am to 2pm
June 2, 2008 – Thursday: 6 to 7:30pm
June 6, 2008 – Friday: Walk-in
June 10, 2008 – Tuesday: Walk-in
June 13, 2008 – Friday: Walk-in


International Students:

International Students MUST stop by Student Affairs in room 213 to meet with your International Student Advisor (Associate Dean for Student Affairs)

Graduation Reception:

Don’t forget immediately following Graduation will be a recognition reception. Please have your family and friends join the faculty and staff for a brunch to congratulate you.

The reception will be held in the Atrium below DeVry at 11:30am.
