Alcohol & Controlled Substance Abuse Policies

DeVry and KGSM forbids the possession, distribution, sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages by a student anywhere on institute property or off campus events. The institute expects all students to comply with federal, state and local laws regarding the use of alcohol. Infraction of the no-alcohol policy may result in disciplinary action.

A student organization should be aware that it may be held responsible for the actions of individuals, including nonmembers, in the event alcoholic beverages are made available by the organization at any of its functions whether on or off campus.

Controlled Substance Policy

DeVry and KGSM considers the use, possession, distribution or sale of drugs (Hallucinogens, Narcotics, Stimulants, and Depressants) that are illegal, except when taken under a doctor's prescription, as contrary to the welfare of the Institute's community. Students in violation of state, federal or other local regulations with respect to illegal drugs may be subject to both criminal prosecution and campus disciplinary action.

Probation - A written reprimand for violation of specified regulations. Probation is for a designated period of time and includes the probability of more severe disciplinary sanctions if the student is found to be violating any institutional regulation(s) during the probationary period.
Institute Suspension - Separation of the student from the Institute for a definite period of time, after which the student is eligible to return. Conditions for readmission may be specified.
Institute Expulsion - Permanent separation of the student from all DeVry and KGSM Institutes.

These sanctions are in addition to any criminal sanctions, which may be imposed.
